New campaign bits

So I usually do my best thinking at work. I'm starting to keep these notes and write them out somewhere other then the back of old sales plans. Right now this is going to fairly sporadic; I may be putting them in a more coherent text later but for now I just want them safe.

-It would be cool to work in some addiction mechanics for certain consumable. I thought of this while thinking some kind of magic drug that'll give you the effect of a full rest in one dose.

-Dragons are always awesome, but sometimes I feel like the metallic/chromatic thing is kind of played out. I think that dragons are interesting in that they telegraph their weaknesses with their color, but likewise it could be a bluff. On a side note, why can't we play as a childling dragon? I see it working like they did the vampire in Heroes of Shadow, but make class, race and to an extent gear all rolled into one thing. So I guess it's more like Savage Species? I never read that one.

-Perks: these are things you get to help you keep up.  For every character less then four or five, however the DM is setting the curve. Maybe you fall behind in levels? Get another perk!Perks themselves are like mini bits of distilled class-roll. The first things that come to mind are the slightly gimped features they give cohots, like a simple encounter heal power or once-per-turn extra d6 of damage. Other perks could be extra damage when bloodied,  or a temp boost to an ability score for the purposes of attacking or using skills, but not for other things or both.

-More interesting criticals! Maxing your damage is safe, and what fun is that? Instead take a chance and roll a old fashioned crit confirmation and add on some injuries!  Or better yet, tell the DM what kind of mutilatory things you're trying to pull off! I'm thinking if you want a specific crit maybe you do less damage, or make the crit confirmation at a disadvantage (side note: disadvantage means you roll two d20 and use the lower roll). The point of this isiit's fun to take chances and 4e usually seems to limit such frivolity.

-I may be the only guy here that wants to multiclass with every character I make, but I'll going to assume not and share this. I hate multiclassing in 4e more then just about anything else. I had to really force myself to keep with it after reading the first draft of the multiclassing rules, and the hybrid class thing seems like a joke. The game isn't going to break if you let players get creative with their designs, but a little structure isn't bad either.  So what I propose is everyone has their base class as normal, and can have one power in each category be from a allied power source of the same role with no penalty, so long as it's not their only power. For example a rouge could take a barbarian encounter power no problem, as long as its not the only encounter power they have. With a single feat tax you can grab from any class that is a allied power. Final feat let's you grab from any class you want, and you only need one power from your base class in each category.  Allied powers go in a circle which I can't really type out, so imagine this loops back on itself.

Each power source is allied to the powers next to it.

-New race, the Rubbermen. A slave race bred by Mind Flayers from drow stock
, they are supwr adept at psionics and fighting in cramped spaces. Also they don't have proper bones so can squeeze through really small spaces. They look like drow but with lusterless black eyes and dolphin-like skin. They have black, white, blue or grey hair, and also grow tentacles on their faces and heads which they can trim off, but think of like Davey Jones from Pirates or the draeni from WoW.

So I wrote all this on my phone and I think it hates me for it. Editing is a serious chore too so I'm going to call this one good.

Introductions are in order

Hm, so looks like I've made a thing...

Since there is the slim possibility that SOMEBODY might actually read this besides me (although I'm not holding my breath!) I'd just like to say c'mon in and enjoy the... stuff?

I'm starting this blog mostly as a place to randomly muse my thoughts on game content creation while I slowly wide up to launching a new game of 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. I'd like to say that I'm using this system for several reasons. First, it's a game that at least on the surface seems tightly balanced so it can take a lot of breaking by me, and the core rules are easy for most people to get their heads around. Second, its the system I have the most experience using so I don't have a lot of learning to do to start making stuff. Third, I already bought waaaay more of the books for it then I really need (I think I'm missing like, four or five of the splatbooks and I haven't read the new Neverwinter book they put out).

Anyway, another thing to mention is my big insperations right now are PATV's Extra Credits web series, and the blog Playing D&D with Pornstars (it's only mildly NSFW). Both these sources have informed me a lot on the stuff I'll be doing here and I'd strongly reccomend checking them out.

So I guess, welcome! Or I'm talking to myself. Either way, fun.
